Commentators: A bunch, from a lot of different countries.
On the Kickoff show that I haven’t watched yet, Nakamura won the Intercontinental title from Finn and Drew retained the Cruiserweight championship.
The Undertaker & Roman Reigns vs. Shane McMahon & Drew McIntyre (No Holds Barred Match)
I liked this a lot better than I thought I would. (That is a recurring theme the entire night.) The only real issue I had was obviously Shane getting too much offense on two multi-time World Champions and them expecting us to buy it. Other than the slip on the Tombstone (which was just as much Shane’s fault as it was his) The Undertaker looked about as good as a man of his age can be expected to look. Drew not taking the pin helped my enjoyment of the ending, Shane is trash.
Winner: Taker and Roman after a Tombstone to Shane.
- We get a respect deal after the match from the babyface side.
- Seth and Becky discuss their match and bring up Philly landmarks in the lamest way possible. I really want to like these two but they are making it difficult.
Raw Tag Team Championship: (C) The Revival vs. The Usos
Good, solid tag team wrestling. These two teams are ready made for a long feud. The Revival are such amazing scumbags that any team they face instantly becomes the home team by proxy. The way they cheat is an art. It doesn’t hurt that the Uso’s have been one of the world’s greatest teams for a long while now. There was zero chance I wasn’t liking this.
Winner: The Revival with the Shatter Machine.
Aleister Black vs. Cesaro
If I issued an open challenge to fight me Cesaro would be the last dude I would want to see. These two put on a striking clinic in there. Cesaro has been thee most criminally underused guy WWE has had for most of his time in the company and every match he has is good to great. Meanwhile, Black has star written all over him and could be a huge deal if he keeps putting on shows like this. Awesome stuff from these guys and at this point of the show I was shocked at how well it was going.
Winner: Black via Black Mass.
- R-Truth and Carmella continue to be amazing in the search for the 24-7 belt. Alexa and Nikki ruin the segment though by not being R-Truth. Everyone should be R-Truth. Alexa gives Nikki a t-shirt.
SmackDown Women’s Championship: (C) Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss & Nikki Cross (2-on-1 Handicap Match)
This was the first match of the night that I didn’t love completely. It was fine and made Bayley look great i’m just not sure what they are doing with the entire Bliss/Cross deal. Not bad or anything but definitely the weakest match on the card so far. Still even with this being an average-ish match this show was humming right along.
Winner: Bayley with the big elbow to Cross.
Braun Strowman vs. Bobby Lashley (Last Man Standing Match)
Maybe a bit too long but I’ll be damned if these two big bastards didn’t bust their asses out there. I really didn’t expect to be impressed with this but I;m glad I was wrong. Lashley still moves like a 25 year old when motivated and Braun is STILL a damn beast that they can build around. I’m down for a renewed and real Braun push right now. Both of these guys killed it.
Winner: Braun with a Powerslam through some stuff.
SmackDown Tag Team Championship: (C) Daniel Bryan & Rowan vs. Big E & Xavier Woods vs. Heavy Machinery
This was straight fire folks. Loved it from beginning to end. Heavy Machinery looked like they could hang with anyone which only helps the future. The Planeteers are amazing and even as thee champs I feel they are an underrated tandem. Bryan always gets (deserved) props but people sleep on how good Rowan can be in a tag environment like this. The New Day is the New Day man. They bring it in every incarnation of the team and always seem to shine in crazy matches like this. Top notch stuff from everyone involved.
Winner: The New Day after a Midnight Hour on Bryan.
- Paul Heyman claims that Brock will cash in tonight…or he’s lying. Could be either.
United States Championship: (C) Ricochet vs. AJ Styles w/Gallows/Anderson
ANOTHER banger. Two of the best WWE has to offer going almost full tilt to try and steal the show is always a cause for celebration. AJ and the Club have a new life as scumbag heels again. It does kind of suck for Ric that he lost the belt this quickly but it could make for a good longer term angle. I’ll take rematches to this one all day thank you. This show has over delivered at every point so far.
Winner: AJ with a super Styles Clash.
Dolph Ziggler vs. Kevin Owens
There is your entire match right there. MAKE OWENS THE FACE OF THE COMPANY YOU COWARDS! ********
Winner: Owens via Stunner.
WWE Championship: (C) Kofi Kingston vs. Samoa Joe
This was another really good one. Maybe not as great as some of the other stuff on this show but still really solid. Too short being my only complaint. I feel terrible that Joe keeps looking like a loser in these situations though. It seems that no matter how good he is they won’t pull the trigger on him. At least the New Day get to have a wacky celebration for having all the gold though.
Winner: Kofi with Trouble in Paradise.
Universal Champion Seth Rollins & Raw Women’s Champion Becky Lynch vs. Baron Corbin & Lacey Evans (Winners Take All Mixed Tag Team Extreme Rules Match)
I don’t know what anyone else thought of this because I try to avoid other folks opinions before I get my thought together. That being said this was…alright and bordering on pretty good. Corbin is not nearly as bad as people claim and Lacey held up her end quite well. Becky and Seth always bust their asses and this came across pretty good. Definitely one of the lesser matches on the show but that’s not a real slag on the match, more of an example on how good the show was.
Winner: The Man’s team after 3 curb stomps to Corbin.
There we go folks a really good….wait.
Universal Championship: (C) Seth Rollins vs Brock Lesnar w/Paul Heyman
Well Brock finally cashed in. Unlike some people I love Brock and don’t have a real issue with him being champion but man did they just kill off Seth or what? I think he forgot they SLAY part in Beast Slayer. Oh well, back to square one.
Winner: Brock after an F5.
Overall Thoughts: I loved this show. The highs were pretty high, the lows weren’t that low and there was a major surprise at the end. I enjoyed almost all of this show and i didn’t think was possible coming in. If WWE put this product on every month my life would be a joy. Great stuff.
