Today we have another huge guest. Saturday night at EWE: Epic Valentine’s Day Extravaganza of Excitement, EWE Champion Matt Atreya has a huge battle coming up. We were lucky enough to speak to him before his match with “The Hybrid Monster” Zodiak and get his thoughts.

1: How does it feel to continue to dominate the EWE championship scene?

There’s a sense of accomplishment. For many years I was known as “the guy who does the fancy kicks”. Now whenever my name is mentioned, they bring up the speech from the August show about so called “wrestlers” who are just keyboard warriors and nothing more. They know my stance on wrestling. They know I’ll die protecting this title.

2: Who has been your toughest challenger for the championship so far?

Chris Silvio. The term “subject to change” should always be something that everyone in the circuit prepares themselves for. I wasn’t prepared mentally at all. I had a personal matter to attend to that day, and I couldn’t shake it. I knew I had a match that night. I knew who my opponent was going to be….. originally. Then I get to the show, and BOOM, change. I didn’t have time to gather myself mentally, but I fought on, and Silvio gave me everything. People tend to sleep on guys like him, but he’s been all over, and has one of the best driving passions in this business.

3: Saturday night you have “The Hybrid Monster” Zodiak as an opponent, what challenge does an experienced vet like him bring to the table?

Before I started, I remember going to a show in Louisville back in 05. The lights go out, there’s chanting, and out walks a guy with fire in his palm. That guy was Zodiak. I was with Zodiak in HorrorShow, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Jason Saint isn’t in his ear right now. Zodiak and I have crossed paths before…. but he’s evolved since then. There’s a reason why he’s a “hybrid monster”, but I’m usually one step ahead.

4: Is there anything in Particular you want to say to Zodiak before Saturday?

I don’t want to say anything to him. He already knows what’s coming. He’s like the yin to my yang, but there’s no peace. Tranquility will not be found come this Saturday.

5: If you are able to take down the Monster Saturday, is there anyone on your radar that you feel is worthy for a championship match?

I have an idea written down that involves 4 people….and if I do end up getting that victory, that piece of paper is going to Jim Austin….. just keep your eyes peeled.
